How do I get started?
1) Check the “Assist with Housing setup/teardown” box on your Willing Servant form. The Housing Chairperson gets these names periodically and will be in touch with you after that.
2) Sign up at a Gathering. There will be lists that you can add you name to. You can sign up for the next Walk and/or be added to a shift list (explained below).
3) Sign up for a shift list. You can contact the Housing Chairperson to be added to a shift list.
4) Show up. Extra help is always welcome. You can just arrive at the church during a housing shift and pitch in. This is especially helpful on Sunday afternoons before closing.

What are Shifts and what is a Shift List?
To ease the burden on the Housing Chairperson, the housing duties have been divided into four different shifts. Each of these shifts has a coordinator that reports to the Housing Chairperson. The coordinators each keep a shift list of people that are willing to help with that shift. Prior to each Walk weekend, the coordinators contact the people that are on their lists to see if they are available to help for that particular weekend. At the Gathering before each Walk, the Housing Chairperson will make an announcement and have sign ups to fill in any shifts that need more people.
When are the Shifts?
The four shifts are Wednesday evening, Thursday evening, Sunday morning, and Sunday afternoon.
The Wednesday evening shift starts about 6:00pm on Wednesday evening and meets outside the Agape room. The main responsibility is to set-up all the rooms that will be used for the weekend. This includes clearing the rooms out and then setting up beds, tables, etc where appropriate.
The Thursday evening shift starts about 5:30pm on Thursday evening and meets near the registration area. This is what is sometimes known as the "skycap" service and basically takes the pilgrim's luggage to the sleeping area.
The Sunday morning shift starts about 7:00am on Sunday morning and meets outside the Agape room. The main responsibility is to put the sleeping areas back together for the church to use. This includes putting beds away and setting rooms back the way they were before Wednesday.
The Sunday afternoon shift starts about 4:00pm on Sunday and meets in the Fellowship Hall at Normandy and the main entrance lobby at Sulphur Grove UMC. The main responsibility is to put the conference room and break areas back together for the church to use. This includes putting tables away and setting rooms back the way they were before Wednesday.
